Achieving Acoustic Perfection in a Home Theatre, Singapore

Designing the Ultimate Home Theatre Experience

A home theatre must provide an immersive audio experience, free from unwanted noise and reverberation. The home theatre located at Wan Tho Ave, Singapore, achieves this through a meticulous acoustic design that meets high standards for sound transmission and isolation. Utilizing Timberix Grooved and Fabrix acoustic panels, this private project offers superior sound quality and comfort, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

Project Overview and Key Stakeholders

About the Home Theatre Project

The home theatre at Wan Tho Ave in Singapore was designed to achieve stringent acoustic specifications, including a Sound Transmission Class (STC) of 55, Impact Isolation Class (IIC) of 50, and a Reverberation Time to decay 60 Decibels (RT60) of 0.8 seconds¹. These specifications ensure minimal sound transmission between rooms and optimal sound quality within the theatre itself.

Key Contributors to the Project

The project was a collaboration of multiple experts in their respective fields. HYLA Architects provided the architectural design, while Soundzipper LLP served as the acoustic consultant, selecting the appropriate materials to achieve the desired acoustic outcomes. Emma Group Pte Ltd was the main contractor overseeing the construction, and Aural-Aid Pte Ltd, specializing in acoustic solutions, handled the installation of the Timberix and Fabrix panels².

Innovative Acoustic Solutions for an Immersive Experience

Design Specifications for Acoustic Panels

The consultant Soundzipper LLP nominated both Timberix and Fabrix acoustic panels to meet the acoustic requirements of the home theatre. Timberix grooved panels with grooves 14/2 and a black walnut PU matte lacquer finish were installed on the walls and ceiling of the theatre. Additionally, Fabrix acoustic panels were installed on the front and dihedral corners of the room to achieve the required reverberation time and enhance the overall acoustic environment².

Impact on Sound Quality and Comfort

The combination of Timberix and Fabrix panels ensures that the home theatre not only meets but exceeds the acoustic standards required for high-quality sound reproduction. These panels work together to control sound reflections, minimize echo, and reduce sound transmission, creating an ideal setting for immersive audio experiences.

Sustainability and Design Excellence

Eco-Friendly Material Choices

The Timberix and Fabrix panels used in this project are chosen for their acoustic properties and sustainability. The black walnut PU matte lacquer finish on the Timberix panels provides an elegant aesthetic that aligns with environmentally friendly practices. This commitment to sustainability ensures that the home theatre is not only acoustically superior but also environmentally responsible³.

Benefits of Sustainable Acoustic Solutions

Incorporating sustainable acoustic materials like Timberix and Fabrix panels helps reduce the environmental footprint of the home theatre while maintaining high standards of sound quality and design. This approach demonstrates a balanced commitment to performance and environmental stewardship.

Collaborative Efforts and Long-Term Impact on Private Spaces

Roles of Architects, Contractors, and Acoustic Experts

The success of the home theatre’s acoustic design is a result of close collaboration among various professionals. HYLA Architects developed the architectural framework, Emma Group Pte Ltd managed the construction, and Aural-Aid Pte Ltd ensured the precise installation of the acoustic solutions. Soundzipper LLP’s expertise in acoustics was critical in selecting the appropriate materials to meet the project’s specifications².

Enhancing the Home Theatre Experience Through Superior Acoustics

By prioritizing acoustic design, this home theatre provides an unparalleled viewing experience, free from noise distractions and optimized for sound clarity. The integration of Timberix and Fabrix panels not only enhances the sound quality but also ensures that the theatre is a comfortable and immersive space for entertainment¹.
